FAQs

  • How long should I book care?

Every family is different and thus the need for care is different. I always suggest, at least, 4 weeks. The first two weeks are mostly giving baby whatever they need/want but after that you can start to establish some routines and predictability. I will say, I have never had a client request less time, only more. If you can afford it, it will be the best investment you've ever made.

  • Is it painful to breastfeed?

Well, no, it shouldn't be painful. If it is, we need to get you some care. Is it uncomfortable and sensitive? For most, yes. For some, no. There are all kinds of contributing factors into how your breast/chest feeding journey will pan out. The most important thing is to ask for help when you need it. Don't "power through". It's not productive for your breast/chest feeding experience or your mental health.

  • How long should I breastfeed?

Ideally, as long as you can. The AAP recommends at least 6 months of exclusive breast/chest feeding and continuing as complimentary foods are introduced. Breast/chest feeding has proven physical benefits lasting long into adulthood.

  • What about poop?

Baby poop can be a rainbow of different colors, yellowish, brown, green and combination of all three. Colors we want to look out for are red, black and white. If you see those colors, contact your pediatrician right away.

  • Should I wake a sleeping baby?

For the first few weeks, yes. We want baby to thrive so we need to wake them every few hours to eat. Once baby has regained their birth weight and breast/chest feeding has been established, (barring any other medical conditions) you can let your baby sleep.

  • How much sleep can I expect?

Sleep is always the number one hot topic when it comes to newborn babies. It’s important to remember that babies operate in 24 hour day cycles. So even though a newborn will sleep 18-20 hours a day, it will be broken up into 2-3 hour increments. It’s beneficial for families to rest while baby is resting. Leave the dishes, take a nap.

  • To circumcise or not to circumcise?
